I love this song and wanted to do it justice. Most of the time was spent on trying to keep a good balances among the many themes of this number. To establish this better balance, I decided to put a full choral in the middle played by the second trumpet and the two trombones with the first trumpet playing one of the counter melodies.
I have rated this number as a more difficult arrangement than most of my arrangements for the time signature may worry a younger player as well as the two modulations. This would be a great number for an advanced high school group or a college ensemble.
Much time was spent in adding more dynamics than normal for the weaving of melodies is the secret to success with this piece. The most important melodic line must come through or the piece only sounds like an exercises in contrapuntal writing.
The original ending, I thought was wonderful but I have included an alternate ending in case the original is too difficult to put together.
