Absolute necessity for every trumpet player and organist!

Organ and piano player’s inevitably ask trumpet players to “play along” with the congregation on hymns. They usually decide this as an afterthought to give the trumpet player something to do, not realizing how much could be added if the trumpet actually had something to play. For most of my life I have dealt with this situation and for that reason I decided to do something about it.
I started searching for the 20 Most Popular Hymns in use today and after a week on the internet, I decided on these. I used the most common key for each and transcribed the soprano, alto, tenor and bass lines for the trumpet. All repeated notes were sustained in order to make the arrangement as instrumental as possible. Many notes have been moved around in order to give the players a more melodic progression.
All twenty hymns have been transcribed in the same manner. Each has a short introduction which can also serve as a tag at the end. Each hymn can be performed as a solo, duet, trio or quartet and will fit with the most widely used hymnals today. A very effective descant is included by simply playing the third part up an octave.
Every trumpet player as well as every Church organist should have a copy of this collection on hand for the difference between just “playing along with the congregation” and performing these arrangements is like night and day. Oh! Did I mention that each part in every hymn has already been transposed for Bb trumpets?

Collection includes– Abide With Me, All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name , Amazing Grace in Gb, Amazing Grace in G, Be Still, My Soul, Beautiful Savior, Blessed Assurance, Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, Crown Him With Many Crowns, Fairest Lord Jesus, Faith of Our Fathers, God of Our Fathers, Great Is Thy Faithfulness, Holy, Holy, Holy, How Great Thou Art, In the Garden, Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee, Rock of Ages, Savior Like A Shepherd Lead Us, The Old Rugged Cross, What A Friend We Have In Jesus.

Crown Him – This musical example has been recorded in such a way as to illustrate all of the possibilities of the arrangement. The introduction was recorded with all four trumpet parts performing. The first time through the hymn is played by the organ and trumpet 1. The second time is performed as a duet, the third time as a trio, the fourth time through as a quartet and on the last time through, I have included the descant part.
