When composers/arrangers begin a project, they have to first decide if they will be writing for their supporters or themselves. Writing for your supports entails some knowledge of what will sell and what is in demand. When writing for oneself, the focus will be on the composer's/arranger's artistic needs. Such was the case in this arrangement. I wrote what I wanted in a way I would like.

Because of the fact that this was written for my own enjoyment, the chance that everyone would like it is reduced dramatically. Roughly 50% who listen to this arrangement will like it and the other 50% will hate it. For those who hate it, I am sorry and for those who like it, I would suggest you seek professional help.

There are several techniques used in this arrangement including a background drown similar to a bag pipe drown (consistent with the material selected) which is placed "above" the melody as apposed to the usual "below" tradition. The sustained effect includes alternating the players performing the constant note to facilitate possible breathing problems. Also used were many motif figures performed in several unrelated keys creating strong dissonances. The middle section of the arrangement becomes more homophonic with again strong clashes in the parts. The last 1/3 returns to the bag pipe effect with a very soft and traditional cadence at the end.

I would love to hear your comments on this arrangement, both good or bad.
