When we think of great numbers performed by trumpet players, Maynard Ferguson recordings of MacArthur Park would be in my top five without a doubt. No one ever sounded as big and strong as those recordings. I decided to do this for a friend and his trumpet choir. The addition of drums, bass and guitar were essential to get the right feel for this tune. I wanted to alternate some of the load so the trumpet parts are divided into two sections to accomplish this. By doing it this way, no one gets wasted and the sections are always fresh for their next entrance. If I were to describe this arrangement, I would say that after performing it, you had better plan on having the walls repainted. This is a burner!
It sounds much more difficult than it really is for most of the parts are in an easy range for a high school player and if you are concerned about the optional F above high C, I have written in a way out of it that sounds almost as good.
