Great piece but when reducing eleven parts down to five, it poses some problems. I have performed many versions of this with brass quintets and I humbly confess, “I think this is the best”. The reason for this unashamed statement is that I have included many editing changes which are customarily done by professional groups but are not included in the printed parts. I have added breathing spots which are usually done but are not indicated as well as alternating the first and second trumpet parts in order to give both players a chance to play as well as rest. Several places I have filled in with trumpets in order to give the piece a more full sound.

I need to mention one thing which is typical of this piece. Logical voice leadings was not a strong point of this tune. Each player will be expected to play the notes as they are written and not the way the ear tends to lead.
