This was originally written as a trio but to give the players more time to rest their lips, I rearranged it for a quartet. This would work extremely well for a recital or contest piece for it is written well and the listener has probably never heard it done by a trumpet quartet. As indicated by the level of difficulty, this is not for the faint at heart for if anyone gets off, that’s the end of the piece. This is a real challenge for a college group and would be excellent on a recital for Bach’s handling of the counterpoint is exceptional.
