If you are looking for a typical Gavotte, this isn’t it.

If you are looking for a beautiful, slow, smooth trio with more passion than a soap opera, this is the one. I think this has much more appeal at this tempo than what Handel first had in mind. If your second part player does not have a good high D, just drop it down an octave on beat three of measure 29 and move on. This is a very unusual handling of this well known dance piece and should be well received by your listeners.

No, I didn’t get this one on the first take! I really had to spend some time on this one but it was worth it. The second and third cornet parts are easy and I think add a lot to the performance. I am planning on having our group perform this on a recital this next Fall, if I can get a volunteer to play the solo part. I love the cornet and plan to add as many arrangements as I can for the art and interest in cornet playing and literature need to be improved. The cornet is in no way a beginner’s instrument and the more we can promote it, the better people will understand its value. Please note the change in price. This took an unbelievable amount of effort to put together. The piano score is “16 pages” alone.

Theater Cat & Memory from Cats- Solo/Duet/Trio for any Treble Clef Instruments

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Instrumentation- Solo/Duet/Trio
Composer- Webber/arr.Chidester
Length- 4:14
Difficulty- E
Range – Low G to F# top line
Endurance- 1+
Finger technique- 1
Counting ability- 1
Ensemble difficulty- 1

Includes complete parts for Solo/Duet/Trio
-Theater Cat-
-Memory-

I have had several requests for show tunes but I wanted to do something different and unique which could be used by young students and would also be handy for band directors needing a versatile ensemble arrangement. This is written to be used as a solo, a duet or a trio for any treble clef instruments. You can use the same instruments as in the case of the recording with three trumpets or you could also use clarinets, saxophones, violins, flutes, etc. You could even mix and match instruments i.e. trumpet and two tenor saxophones.

The solo is a stand alone solo. The duet switches parts between the two players to save chops and give both players a chance to shine. The third part can be added to give the group a bigger sound and involve an additional player. For teachers who want something fun to play in lessons, this concept will work well for no matter how many players you have in the band room, you will be able to put something together at any time. For the younger player, you will be able to call up your friends to play something interesting and recognizable together.

Trio #1 by Handel

Instrumentation- Trumpet Trio with piano
Composer- Handel/trans.Chidester
Length- 5:00
Difficulty- VD
Range – Low A to high Bb
Endurance- 3
Finger technique- 3
Counting ability- 3
Ensemble difficulty- 3

Originally written for two Sopranos and a Bass, this has beautiful vocal lines which lay well for the trumpets. It is in three movements and would work very well for a college senior recital or any other special concert. This will require three strong players. Although the range is not that high there are long phrases between breaks. This could also be performed without the piano for the three parts are strong enough on their own. Please note price, for this arrangement required add time and effort to make available.
