Length- 2:32
Difficulty- M
Range – Low B to B above staff (optional E above high C)
Endurance- 2
Finger technique- 2
Counting ability- 2
Ensemble difficulty-2+

This is one of the great classic Mancini arrangements. Each player has interesting parts and the trumpet solo is given to the third trumpet player. The solo is totally written out or can be done on the spot. The rhythmic interest is what made this such a great number.

This was one of the most enjoyable projects I have done for some time for when you are working with “great material”, the arrangement almost writes itself. The parts are much easier than you would think for the tempo does not get too fast for an average high school player. As with most of my charts, everyone has a chance at the “good stuff”. This will require some independent playing for everyone has their own part and most of the arrangement is contrapuntal in style. The opening can be played with four trumpets without any loss of richness.

Instrumentation- Trumpet quartet
Composer- trans.Chidester
Length- 2:47
Difficulty- M
Range – Low A to F top line
Endurance- 2
Finger technique- 2
Counting ability- 2
Ensemble difficulty-2+

This is a very popular number with a definite Mexican flavor. Double tonguing is required (simplify by replacing first and third sixteenth notes with eighth notes) but other than that, it is easy to perform. Everyone shares in the work load including a little horn off beats throughout. There are ample rests for each player.

What Now My Love?

Length- 3:08
Difficulty- M
Range – Low B to A above staff
Endurance- 3
Finger technique- 2
Counting ability- 2
Ensemble difficulty- 2

I have always enjoyed doing thing in a Bolero style and this is one of my favorites. The chart sounds taxing but because of each player trading on both the melody and the ostinato lines, no one has to get hurt. It has a very limited range and counting is not a problem. I’d give this a 10, pun intended.

Length- 1:45
Difficulty- VE
Range – Low A to top space E
Endurance- 1

This is both easy and interesting. Those two are hard to pull off but I think you will enjoy this one. I have included many rests and the melody is shared. The middle section includes an interesting vamp figure which builds and eventually includes the melody. If you need a good arrangement for your lower level players, this is it.

This is another request number. Several people asked for some mariachi tunes so this would be one. The guitar and bass are also included but could be played without. This brought back some great times I had with a group in Dallas called the Matamoros Brass. If you’re out there Tommy, give me a call, you had a great band and thanks for working with a gringo.

Composer- Chidester
Length- 2:59
Difficulty- M
Range – Low B to G top space
Endurance- 3 (fourth part)
Finger technique- 3
Counting ability- 3

This is a nice Latin number with an interesting, building vamp section at the end for excitement. The 1st part has an optional high D but can be played down an octave by the younger players. The range is only an octave and a 6th with no real difficulties for the players. This is a fun piece to perform. The audience will definitely be moving on this one.
